Wedding Superstitions
Weddings have all sorts of superstitions attached to them. Here are some we know of.
- It's bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the ceremony on the day of the wedding.
- The bride (or her father) should put a coin in her shoe for good luck.
- The bride's attire should include "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue" for good luck.
- It's bad luck for the bride to start down the aisle on time.
- The woman who catches the bride's bouquet will be the next to marry.
- The man who catches the bride's garter will be the next to marry.
- Only a virgin can wear a white wedding dress.
- Throwing rice (or birdseed or confetti) as the couple leaves the church enhances their fertility.
- It's bad luck for the bride to triple-stumble over the threshold on her wedding night, so the groom should carry her through the door.
- A woman should only propose to a man during a leap year, otherwise it endangers the marriage.
