Weddings

While Venus shares some responsibility for weddings, Juno -- the goddess of partnership -- presides over the lifetime commitment between two people and the public declaration of that bond. Marriage is ruled by the Seventh House.

When we marry, our status change is reflected in a number of ways -- a wedding ring is the usual signal. Changing our names, which used to be a sign that we belonged to our husbands rather than our fathers, is now optional. Many of us adopt our husband's last name as a symbol of separation from our old life and our embrace of the new.

Society still approves of a married woman. Many women find they receive more credibility from creditors, business investors and landlords than they did before they were wed.
