Fashion
I base most of my fashion taste on what doesn't itch.
-- Gilda Radner
Certain geographic areas of the world, like the Hollywood-influenced Los Angeles, London,
New York, and the perennially glamorous Paris, are considered the fashion centers of the world.
Top designers create the look of the next season. While most of the clothes seem outlandish to
the rest of us, the colors, fabrics and styles filter into our everday clothes.
The fashion industry transforms a basic element of life -- the necessity
of clothing -- into a chance to creatively express your identity. Models are just that -
examples for you to draw on when creating your own look. However, some models can become
empires in themselves, like the Australian supermodel
Elle Macpherson,
who has become Elle Macpherson Inc.
Twiggy,
Carla Bruni, and
'70s icon Lauren
Hutton are other examples of the supermodel species.
The contemporary method of determining fashion has changed significantly from
older traditions when clothing designs, evolved from function. Particular designs might indicate a
village, a clan or a family. Current designs are more an expression of the individual taste.
