Intuition

The "psychic" realm, which involves the phenomena of clairvoyance, clairaudience and other subtle ways of getting information that we can't experience in the physical world, is often disregarded because it can't be explained.

Intuition is not the same as reading someone's minds. Think of coincidences -- the phone rings and it's the very person you were thinking of. Or you meet someone and you instantly get a bad feeling -- you decide to pay attention to that feeling and use caution. That is intuition.

One system for explaining how we pick up energies and messages from others is the chakra system, which comes from Hinduism and the East.

Chakras

The chakra system is considered a subtle body of energy that exists in proximity to the physical body but does not reside in it. Each chakra corresponds to an area of the physical body, and each of these points receives a different kind of information.

Root chakra: Located at the base of the spine, this is where we deal with survival issues, the primal situations necessary to keep the physical body alive.

Spleen chakra: Located three fingers below the navel, here's where we pick up the emotions of other people, where we "tune in" to others.

Solar Plexus chakra: Located a hand up from the navel, this center distributes vital energy throughout the body. We store body memory here, both traumatic experiences such as rape or surgery, or joyous ones like a satisfying sexual union or a swim in a clear river. We also find our "grounding" here, in our center, our point of balance. If we are stressed, we can focus our attention on this region and regroup.

Heart chakra: Located in the heart region, here's where we enter a state of oneness with another or with a group -- love. If you've been in a bad relationship and haven't healed from it, it affects you on a soul level, and the pain is stored within the broken heart chakra. Women looking for their soul mates need to clear their heart chakras before re-embarking on that journey.

Throat chakra: Located at the cleft of the throat, this is where our common sense lives, otherwise known as our "inner voice." Our personality and our greater being communicate through this center. If we experience clairaudience, the ability to hear at a distance, this is where we pick up the signals.

Brow chakra: Located between the eyebrows is the place where we might experience clairvoyance. Our intuition, our ability to arrive at a concept without going through a logical process, resides here.

Crown chakra: Located at the top of the head is our ability to leave our bodies, even in dreams. If we have a strong future "knowing" it comes to us through this chakra. Our ability to heal ourselves and others also originates here. The energy in this high chakra is the energy that comes to us from God or a spiritual source.

We pick up the psychic realm through chakras. Some people lump Astrology with psychics, clairvoyance or with knowing the future. Astrology, however, is a mathematical science, calculated from planetary movement. Calculating a chart according to the planetary movements is not the same as reading someone's mind.

People who can read minds (clairvoyants) possess extreme examples of psychic abilities. Most of us have experienced our own intuition. How we choose to use it is usually a measure of our spiritual development.
