Spending
Venus is one of the most impulsive goddesses, and Libra's (an Air Sign ruled by Venus) compulsion to
keep up appearances elevates this impulsiveness to an art form. Besides,
we can't be patient all the time.
Ask yourself: How many half-full bottles of bubble bath, body lotion,
perfume, moisturizer and so on have taken up permanent residence in your
cupboards? Does your bathroom look like a showroom for The Body Shop?
Part of being a woman is celebrating beauty. We adorn ourselves with
clothing and jewelry, decorate our houses with furniture and art, buy
ourselves flowers just because. A new lipstick or a fine silk scarf really
does make us feel better, at least temporarily. Then sometimes we feel
guilty for not setting the money aside for a more practical or "important"
purpose.
Women often have a very complicated relationship with spending money. When
we shop, we wonder whether we should have bought something for our
children, our partners, our parents instead. Sometimes we resent the
limits placed on us by our creditors, our bank balances, or our families.
We sometimes "act out" by buying luxuries, even if we have to go further
into debt to do so. Places like Macy's and Nordstrom become both heaven
and hell for us.
On the other hand, not every expenditure is grounds for pulling our hair
out. Very few women actually have a "shopping disorder." We work hard to
earn money and we can allow ourselves to enjoy it.
Financial Security: Finding a Balance
We have to live with the consequences of our actions, and financial matters
can become very complicated very quickly. The conflict between the impulse to
spend and the understanding that we need to save for the long term can keep us off-balance.
Some women get caught up in the downward spiral of spending more than they
earn. They shop, often on credit, and then feel guilty -- so they save.
The savings goes to pay the credit card bill, but it doesn't cover all of
it. Each month the balance owed grows larger. The woman reaches a point
where she feels she'll never get out of the hole, so she might as well not
even try. She may also feel so embarrassed by her "failure" or "lack
of control" that she buys things just to show the outside world that
she can.
On the other hand, when women accept and integrate both financial styles of
Taurus and
Libra
into our lives, we can do very well. Maturity and experience help us learn
when to be extravagant and when to focus on future rewards. Our insistence
on quality makes every purchase a long-term investment, and our knack for
living well helps us through the times when we are forced to economize.
